The Social Media and Education Study Group

Two billion Facebook users, 1.5 billion YouTube users, 800 million Instagram users. On a single day we produce 525 million tweets, upload 54 million photos, and watch five billion videos. The scale and ubiquity of social media presents education with opportunities and challenges raising urgent questions of theory, methods and practice.

We are proposing an informal group in which those within the Faculty whose work involves social media can meet, exchange ideas and collaborate on future projects. We also welcome those who are simply interested in social media and would like to learn more about it in relation to educational research.

If you would like to be involved then please e-mail mark AT markcarrigan.net and katy.jordan AT gmail.com with a couple of sentences about your research. We hope to organise an initial meeting in the Easter term, with a view to planning regular activities for the 2019/20 academic year.
