Inaugural Alfred Dubs Lecture on Migration and Refugees

The Centre for the Study of Global Human Movement/invites you to attend the Inaugural Alfred Dubs Lecture on Migration and Refugees on 18 March 2021, 16.00-17.30, introduced by the Vice Chancellor.

We are proud to launch this new lecture series named after the renowned campaigner for the rights of migrants and refugees, Lord Dubs, a British Labour politician and life peer. He was born in Prague and was one of the 669 Czech-resident, mainly Jewish children saved from the Nazis on the Kindertransport in 1939. He is best known for the two Dubs amendments aimed at enshrining the right of safe passage to the UK of unaccompanied children in the Immigration Act 2016 and EU Withdrawal Agreement 2020. He will be speaking on ‘Migration and Refugees: a hostile environment’.

Lord Dubs will be joined by Professor Jacqueline Bhabha who is Professor of Health and Human Rights, Jeremiah Smith Jr Lecturer in Law at the Harvard Law School and Adjunct Lecturer in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School.  She will be speaking about ‘A better future: the urgent imperative to promote safe and legal child migration’. 

This is an opportunity to hear two of the most prominent and respected voices in the debate around humanitarian and legal issues relating to contemporary migration, especially child migrants.
